Night Markets in Taiwan
It is a huge business in Taiwan. Night markets are everywhere but the queen of them is the Shihlin Night Market in Shihlin.
Shihlin Night Market is bursting with merchandize, food, teenagers, and foreigners (mostly Japanese). Mock brands and authentic are sold side by side, sellers laid their goods on the center of the main street... its chaos in fun way. The prices here are not as low as any other night markets though. And the food....yes...the chipay (chicken cutlets) is huge but there is only one thing I desire whenever I visit the place - the marsala sold on street stall. Chicken and beef marsala are the best!
Kongkuan Night Market is a haven for university students since it is located right in front of NTU. Very convenient to commuters with MRT and bus stations just across the street. This is where you can find NT 100 shirt which you can't find in Shihlin. There is a Christian bookshop nearby but they are kind of expensive to my standard. The goods are relatively cheaper than Shihlin though.
A big sign of "Zau Ho Market of Tourist" is my husband's favourite goat meat. The center of the street caters for food while the opposite sides are for clothes, shoes, toys, etc. We seldom visit the place because of its distance but its worth a visit especially that open-oven baked bun with meat inside thingy. I don't know the name but it is yummy but you have to queue for, let say, 10 minutes to get your one bun.
Snake Alley (Hwahsi Jie), been here once and never tried again. I just don't like the sight of the snakes and some exotic animals eaten in restaurants. You can really see live snake being slaughtered, milked of venom and blood... there are turtles as well. Not a place for me.
Ching Mei is one of the night markets we frequently visit because of its distance to our house. Lots of cheap goods and good food. We like the steak house (only NT100). There used to be a second hand shop that sells clothes at NT 1o0 and the merchandize are mostly from Hongkong.
Nahsieshao night market is one of my fave because of the NT 98 store. Everything is NT 98 and they have cute stuffs as well. We have a fave shoe store there and they always have items on sale. My husband likes the street stall selling catfish.
